Testosterone Replacement Therapy
Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) may be prescribed for adult men who have symptoms of low testosterone and low testosterone levels confirmed by laboratory testing. Symptoms such as low energy, low sex drive or low mood can have many causes, so laboratory testing, a physical exam and a provider evaluation are required before any treatment.
The first step is a medical evaluation, including a physical exam and blood tests. A prescription is issued only after your provider reviews your lab results and health history and determines that treatment is appropriate. Treatment requires ongoing monitoring, including follow-up laboratory tests. Possible risks include increased red blood cell count, acne, fluid retention, worsening of sleep apnea, reduced sperm production and fertility, breast tenderness or enlargement, and possible cardiovascular risk. This general information does not replace advice from your provider.
Important information. Testosterone replacement therapy is prescription treatment for men with symptoms and laboratory-confirmed low testosterone. It is not for muscle building, athletic performance or anti-aging, and it is not appropriate for everyone. Your provider will review risks and benefits with you. Some medications we prescribe are compounded by licensed pharmacies. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. The testosterone used in our testosterone replacement therapy is compounded. Compounded medications are prescribed only after laboratory testing, a physical exam and a provider evaluation. Prescription treatment is available only after laboratory testing, a physical exam and an evaluation by a licensed provider (by HIPAA-compliant Doxy.me video visit where applicable), and is not appropriate for everyone. Services are available only to patients located in Texas, verified by driver’s license or Texas ID card.
